Mefloquine, sold under the brand name of Larium TM, is a popular medication for preventing malaria, but has some side effects that preclude some people from taking it.
This medication is easy to take, since it is a once-a-week dose and is taken 1 week before the arrival at the malaria risk area, taken while at the destination as well as four weeks after the fact.
It is taken after a meal and adequate fluid must be taken with it.
Side effects
Although mefloquine is well tolerated by most people, there are people that are precluded from taking this medication.
