Mefloquine, sold under the brand name of Larium TM, is a popular medication for preventing malaria, but has some side effects that preclude some people from taking it.

This medication is easy to take, since it is a once-a-week dose and is taken 1 week before the arrival at the malaria risk area, taken while at the destination as well as four weeks after the fact.
It is taken after a meal and adequate fluid must be taken with it.
Side effects
Although mefloquine is well tolerated by most people, there are people that are precluded from taking this medication. Anybody suffering from irregular heartbeat seizures, epilepsy, anxiety attacks and anxiety related disorders, as well as people that have a medical condition or history of psychiatric problems as well as depression or any form of psychosis.
